WCHS Wildcats Open 2022 Football Campaign on Thursday, August 18

The 2022 edition of the Wayne County High School Wildcat football will begin their season Thursday night at Guy H. Buchanan Stadium as they play host to Hickman County. The Wildcats will field a young team and are again led by Cary Crews as the Head Coach. Coach Crews will be assisted by John Blackwell, Derek Willis, Lance Nutt, Jason McWilliams, and William Mosley. Brilee Harris, Greg Morris, and Ryan Keaton will be on hand to help when needed.

This year’s version of the Wildcats will be led by only eight senior squad members. Carl Britt, Austin Whitson, Jesse Dixon, Eli McClain, Hector Merino, R.J. Moore, Ethan Holt, and Nolan Moore represent the Senior class. The eleven Junior class players are Ryder Butler, Talan Keeton, Jared Dingus, Isaiah Gresham, Logan Brewer, David-Grant Dixon, Jacob Neinast, Jaxon Pope, Aaron Martin, Isaac Neinast, and Eythgen Baumgartner. Sophomore squad members include Sayler Skelton, Drew Bevis, Cayson Castleman, Ben Thompson, Rylan Durbin, Brayden Littleton, and Baker Bryant.  Newcomers to the Wildcats as Freshman are Raymond Overby, Kacee Hunt, Peyton Griggs, Caymen Camfield, David Ulman, Michael Derksen, Lakota Hooker, Dane Bryant, Ty Carlton, Hayden Horner, and Kolby Ray. Managers Lucas Horton and Luke Mangubat will be taking care of the needs of the players – on and off the field.

The WCHS cheerleaders are again under the direction of Anna Beth Haggard and Tara Hollis. Members of the cheer squad are Myleigh Byrd, Josie Prater, Nevaeh Bayless, Elise Scaife, Gracie Harris, Hannah Shelton, Isabelle Davis, Shania Harris, Olivia Gobbell, Emma Roberson, Audrey Franks, Carlie Staggs, and Manager Lynda Meineke.

Come out Thursday night and support the teams as they face off with Parsons. Game time is 7:00 p.m.—Submitted
