WCHS Senior Luke Sesler Verbally Commits to Play College Football

An exciting event took place at Wayne County High School in Waynesboro, Tennessee on Dec. 14, 2021. Senior football player Luke Sesler made a verbal commitment to play football in college. His family, coaches, and teammates beamed with pride as he sat down to make his consequential decision. Four cards boasting the names of schools, Sewanee, University of Saint Mary, Norwich University and Lyon College, faced the crowd of his peers. WCHS Head Football Coach, Cary Crews, spoke highly of his player before Sesler announced his ultimate decision.

Coach Crews said, “Luke is an extra hard worker; he always has been. It’s a proud day for him, and it’s a proud day for his family. I am glad that he is getting to further his football career, but, more importantly, his education. I know that he will work as hard at that as well.”

Coach Crews then gave Luke the floor. Luke said, “Thank you all for being here. Thank you to my teammates; I would never have wanted to play with anyone else for four years of high school or middle school. Thank you, Coach Crews, Coach Blackwell, Coach Lance, and Coach Willis, for being part of my high school career. Thank you Coach Terrell for picking me up lately and helping me with the training process and FSL and all of the great opportunities that I’ve been given. It is finally time to make my final   decision about these four schools.”

Anticipation filled the classroom as Sesler put the first card down on its face. “I’m not going with Sewannee,” he stated. He then put the third card in line, Norwich, down on its face, leaving Lyon College and University of Saint Mary standing. He put the fourth card in line, Lyon College, down on its face to reveal his choice, University of Saint Mary. Spectating classmates burst into applause when Sesler made his decision. The signing ceremony will happen at a later date. WCHS is honored to have another student pursuing college football. Sesler’s talents will take him far in both his football and academic career.
