WCHS Ladycats Season Ends at McKenzie

   The Wayne County High School Ladycats’ season ended in the first round of Region 6-1A action last Friday night at Bethel College as they were soundly defeated, 63- 44, by the Lady Rebels of McKenzie.  The Ladycats finish up at 15 – 12 on the year.

   The Ladycats got off to a slow start, as they trailed 18 – 11 at the end of the first quarter, but it got even worse as they scored only 3 points in the second period. Twelve first half turnovers and poor shooting hampered the effort. They trailed 31 – 14 at the half. The Ladycats didn’t fare any better in the third, falling behind by thirty. They fought back in the fourth, but never managed to get within striking distance as they fell by the final score of 63 – 44.

   Kelley Baugus scored 13 points on the night, including scoring the 1,000th point of her career at the 5:30 mark of the fourth quarter as she hit a free throw. She had a rebound, 2 steals, and 7 assists.  Michaela Gallian scored 7 points and had 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. Henley Floyd hit 2 three pointers for 6 points and had a steal. Cambree Camfield scored 5 points and had 4 boards, while Lauren Bryant also had 5 points with an assist. Savanna McClain and Charli Woodside each scored 3 points.  McClain also had 6 boards, a steal, and 2 assists. Lexie Lee had 2 rebounds. The Ladycats were out rebounded 33 – 19 and finished the game with 16 turnovers, shooting 34% from the field.

   With the season over, the Ladycats will go back to work to continue to improve and find replacemets for seniors Kelley Baugus, Henley Floyd, and Lexie Lee. “WORK HARD LADYCATS!”—Submitted
