WCHS ‘Cats, Lady Cats Fall at Loretto

With a shortened week because of winter weather, the WCHS teams traveled to Loretto on Tuesday night.  The Lady cats were hit hard by the Lady Mustangs, finding themselves down 11 – 0 early in the first quarter.  They never got on track, turning the ball over 22 times and falling by the final score of 72 – 35. The Wildcats kept pace with the Mustangs, with the score being 14 all at the end of the first. The second quarter saw the Mustangs go up 35 – 24 by halftime. The ‘Cats were defeated 71 – 51. With a trip to Culleoka on Tuesday, the teams will then travel to Collinwood on Friday. The canceled Richland game will be rescheduled at a later time. The Lady cats are now 15 – 4 on the year. The Wildcats now stand at 8 – 8.

The Lady cats struggled to score and managed only 35% from the field. They were led by Cambree Camfield with 11 points. She had 6 rebounds.  Blair Baugus scored 7 points and had 11 rebounds, a block, and 2 steals. Michaela Gallian had 6 points with 3 rebounds, and Lauren Bryant had 5 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Annie Lee had 3 points with a rebound and 2 assists, and Jac Keaton had 2 points with 2 rebounds. Kylee Brewer scored 1 point. Kenzie Griggs had a steal. The Lady cat turnovers turned into 27 points off of turnovers in the contest.

The Wildcats kept pace in the first quarter, but the Mustangs turned up the defense, holding them to 24 first half points and leading by double digits, 35 – 24. The third quarter saw the margin go to 55 – 33. The ‘Cats fell 71 – 51 with Landyn Prater leading the scoring with 15 points. He had a rebound and a steal. Tyler Moser had 14 points with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Justice Bell hit for 9 points on 3 long range goals and had a rebound and an assist. Sayler Skelton had 6 points with 2 boards and 2 steals. Jesse Dixon score 4 points and had a rebound. Cooper Shamer scored 3 points and had a rebound. Ryder Butler had 2 rebounds and 4 assists, and Ethan Camfield had an assist. Eli McClain had 4 rebounds, a block, and 3 assists. Preston Stegall and Austin Whitson each had a rebound. The ‘Cats had 13 turnovers and were out rebounded 30 – 16.    Follow the teams as they enter district competition. “GO Wildcats and Lady cats!”
