Alex Winston Gray, age 30, of Waynesboro, was arrested on Thursday, November 7th after fleeing from a Waynesboro police officer the previous day. Officer Austin Lanier filed a report stating that on November 6th, he observed Gray driving a vehicle that did not have an ignition interlock device, which Gray is required by law to have due to previous charges. Officer Lanier made contact with Gray, telling him he was under arrest for driving on revoked. Gray then fled on foot into the woods. Officer Lanier was initially able to apprehend Gray, but Gray struggled and resisted arrest, punching Officer Lanier in the face. Gray was once again able to flee from Officer Lanier, who was trying to retrieve his handcuffs and radio following the altercation. Following the incident, Gray’s unsecured vehicle was towed to the Waynesboro Police Department impound, where an inventory of the vehicle revealed a 12-gauge Winchester Super Mag shotgun. Gray is a convicted felon on prior drug charges. Gray was apprehended and arrested on November 7th, and charged with driving on revoked, resisting stop/frisk/halt/arrest, evading arrest, assault, and felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $57,000.00 bond.
