The Waynesboro Dixie Youth Ponytails 12U girls’ softball team defeated Collinwood on Monday to become State Champions! The Waynesboro team will now advance to the World Series in Alexandria, Louisiana, which will be played on July 30th through August 3rd.
Both Wayne County teams fought a hard battle on Monday, having to sit out a 45-minute rain delay and swapping fields to finish out the muddy game. They went into the bottom of the 6th inning tied 3-3 until Waynesboro scored the winning run to bring home the State Championship trophy. Waynesboro was undefeated throughout the district and state tournaments.
The Collinwood team was awarded the 2nd place State Trophy following the game. Both teams showed great skill and sportsmanship, and represented our county in a great way! Congratulations, young ladies!
