Wayne Medical Center has restricted visitation and is not allowing visitors for inpatients and emergency department patients, with limited exceptions, according to CEO Tyler Taylor. The policy was instituted on November 11 and will remain in effect until further notice.
“This new policy is intended to protect the health and safety of our patients, staff members, physicians and community,” said Taylor. “We understand this is difficult for families; however, we are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases in our community. Unfortunately, individuals could have the virus and not experience symptoms, which means that they could unknowingly spread it to others. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the community at this time.”
Those who have a loved one in the hospital are strongly encouraged to make use of technology to stay in touch, including phone, text and apps such as FaceTime. The nursing staff will assist with virtual visitation as needed.
According to Taylor, the hospital will make limited exceptions for end-of-life and those with cognitive or physical disabilities. These situations will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
At this time, the visitation policy at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia remains unchanged. Visitation guidelines at all Maury Regional Health facilities are subject to change should the number of community cases and/or hospitalizations continue to increase.
