The Western Region Horse Bowl & Hippology Contest was held on January 21, 2023 at the Western Region Research and Educational Center in Jackson, Tennessee. Wayne County 4-H was well represented with a 4-member team in both Junior and Junior High divisions.

The contest consisted of two events. The Hippology contest is made up of a written test and identification. The Horse Bowl is a game show type contest that test each 4-H member’s knowledge about equine anatomy, management, reproduction, feeding, as well as, other aspects of the horse industry.

The Junior team placed 4th in the region in the Hippology contest! The team had a combined score of 503 points. They will be headed to the State contest which will be held on February 17th at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Those members are Izzy Pope, Jessie Scoggin, Lexie Hallmark, and Keiland Rich.

The Junior High team placed 6th in the region with a combined score of 543, just shy of qualifying for the trip to state. Jolie Makara placed 9th overall in the Junior High division. Team members for the Junior High were Jolie Makara, Molly Pope, Eva Welch, and AnaLee Rich.

Both of these teams knocked it out of the park, especially with losing two members the week prior to the contest. We are so proud of these young ladies!
