Mrs. Virginia Brewer Ray of Waynesboro, Tennessee was born on April 15, 1932 to the late Charles Leonard Brewer and Bertha Elizabeth Throgmorton Brewer and departed this life on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the San Antonio Medical Center in Ajijic, Mexico at the age of 87 Years, 7 Months and 22 Days after an extended illness. She was united in marriage to Clay Alton Ray on Saturday, February 16, 1952 and he preceded her in death on Tuesday, December 25, 2001. Mrs. Ray was a retired owner and operator of Ray’s Discount in Collinwood, TN and she attended the Green River Baptist Church in Waynesboro, TN.
She is survived by a son, Steven W. Ray of Ajijic, Mexico; two sisters, Imogene Hill of Collinwood, TN and Jerry Lou Moore of Waynesboro, TN. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by a son, Randall Ray.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with David Byrd of First Baptist Church, Collinwood, TN officiating. Burial followed with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting the family.
