Our Veterans’ Spotlight this week is on Dennis Creecy. Wayne County Veteran Ron Tripp submitted Mr. Creecy for the spotlight, saying, “As a U.S. Army Veteran, I would like to inform other Wayne County Veterans and citizens that we have a Wayne County Retired Army and Tennessee National Guard Veteran Sgt. Major Dennis Creecy, who has served his country and Wayne County beyond and above the call of duty.”

Tripp continued, “Dennis’ dedication to the American Legion Post 254 Honor Guard and the veterans’ funerals and bridge dedications for veterans and for veterans killed in action is unmatched. Dennis is also to be commended for emceeing many Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.

“Dennis is a great American patriot, and he is sick now. Please join me in prayer for this Wayne County American Hero.”

Dennis spent a total of 41 years in military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969, completing his Basic Training at Fort Campbell, KY. He was stationed overseas at Camp Drake, Japan from September 1970 to September 1971. He was discharged from active duty in 1971.

Dennis went on to join the Tennessee National Guard in 1976, during which time he served as Section Sergeant, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant. He completed training with the Guard overseas in Okinawa, Japan in 1991 and 1993.

In 1994, Dennis transferred to the Guard Unit in Pulaski, TN and was promoted to First Sergeant over the Pulaski, Lewisburg, and Waynesboro units.

Before his retirement from the National Guard in 2011, Dennis completed many accomplishments, including the Sergeant Major Academy in 1996; promotion to CSM E9 in 1997; and Humanitarian Missions in Honduras and Bulgaria in 1998.

Dennis served overseas in Iraq from January to December 2005, and again from August 2009 to April 2010. He retired as CSM of the 194th Engineer Brigade in August of 2010. The highest honor Dennis received for his service was the Legion of Merit.

Mr. Dennis Creecy is truly an American Hero, and will be remembered in prayers for healing during this time of sickness.
