The Newest Addition to UT School System

UT Southern

Southern Middle Tennessee welcomes the newest addition to the University of Tennessee, UT Southern. Originally known as Martin Methodist College, a private church-funded institution, the school has resided in Pulaski, Tennessee for more than 150 years.

Students who were once skeptical about committing to a church-affiliated college need not worry longer. However, there will be faith-based organizations available for those wanting to participate. Moreover, tuition is substantially cheaper than before.

Pulaski is the perfect city for UT Southern; it is quaint, easy to navigate, yet has that “college-town” atmosphere. It is sandwiched between two iconic cities, Nashville and Huntsville. Furthermore, it is the only four-year/graduate institution located between Sewannee and Freed Hardeman, serving numerous counties near the state border.

There are currently 38 undergraduate degree programs offered at UT Southern. At the most recent alumni event, UTS president Mark LaBranche disclosed that the university will soon be adding degree programs not previously offered by Martin Methodist College such as engineering and agriculture.

Martin Methodist always prided itself on stellar athletics, and that has not changed since being purchased by the UT system. University of Tennessee Southern awards generous scholarships to athletes of various sports. Academic scholarships and work-study opportunities are also available.
