Trojans & Trojanettes Take Wins from Waynesboro, Split with Clifton

   The Trojans and Trojanettes had a big week last week with two district games against county rivals Clifton and Waynesboro. They started out the week on Tuesday at Waynesboro and both the Trojans and Trojanettes brought home wins! Friday night the Trojans and Trojanettes faced Clifton on Collinwood’s home court. The Trojanettes finished with a win, but the Trojans had a tough loss.

   On Tuesday, January 14th, the Trojanettes had a slow start in the first quarter against the Lady Cats, but quickly recovered and took the lead in the 2nd. During the 4th quarter the Lady Cats managed to catch up, but the Trojanettes came out on top with a score of 54-51. Scoring the most points for the Trojanettes was Kristen Retherford with 16 points and 3 rebounds. Following Retherford was AC Whitehead with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Emily Kautsky with 9 points and 4 rebounds, Asia Kelly with 8 points and 7 rebounds, Hayley Siems with 4 points and 1 rebound, Alyssa Gray with 3 points and 2 rebounds, and Rhianna McWilliams with 2 points and 1 rebound. Sophie Gobbell also had 4 rebounds. 

   The Trojans faced off against the Wildcats following the Trojanette victory. The Trojans were behind throughout the game, but had a great comeback in the 4th quarter, which led them to a victory against Waynesboro. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Noah Hollis with 20 points. Following Hollis was Peyton Ward with 11 points. Also scoring were Joe Thompson with 10 points, Blair Holt with 4 points, and Dalton Chastain with 2 points. 

   The Trojanettes faced Clifton on Friday, January 17th. The Trojanettes held the Lady Lions to only 18 points in the first half with a score of 32-18. The Trojanettes finished the game with a win. The final score was 66-40. Asia Kelly led the team in scoring with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Following Kelly was Sophie Gobbell with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Kristen Retherford with 12 points and 3 rebounds, AC Whitehead with 10 points and 5 rebounds, Harlee Haddock with 9 points and 3 rebounds, Emily Kautsky with 4 points and 10 rebounds, and Alyssa Gray with 3 points and 2 rebounds. Brylee Harris had 5 rebounds, Addie Quillen had 2 rebounds, and Rhianna McWilliams and Katie Robertson each had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans also played Clifton on Friday night. The Trojans were down 17 in the 3rd quarter, but had a great comeback in the 4th. The Trojans tied the game, making it a nail-biter in the final minutes of the game. Ultimately, the Trojans fell short after the Lions were able to make 2 free throws and were unable to recover in the final seconds. The final score was 67-69. Leading in scoring for the Trojans was Joe Thompson with 19 points. Noah Hollis followed Thompson with 13 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Dalton Chastain with 12 points, Tucker Thompson with 9 points, Dayton Scott with 8 points, Peyton Ward with 3 points, Carter Smith with 2 points, and Aidan Baskins with 1 point. 

   The Trojanettes now have a record of 11-2 and the Trojans record is now 4-9. The Trojans and Trojanettes have a big week this week with 3 games. They faced Summertown on Tuesday at home and will travel to Loretto on Friday. Also, the Trojans and Trojanettes will play at home against Waterloo on Saturday.
