Trojans & Trojanettes Fall to Loretto, Trojanettes Defeat Perry County

The Collinwood High School Trojans and Trojanettes began their district games for the season last week. The week started off at home on Tuesday, January 7th against Loretto. These games resulted in losses for both the Trojan and Trojanettes. On Friday, January 10th both teams traveled to Perry County. The trip resulted in a win for the Trojanettes and loss for the Trojans. 

   On Tuesday, the Trojanettes fought hard against the state ranked Loretto Mustangs. It was a tough fight through and through, but the Mustangs were able to pull away in the fourth quarter. The Trojanettes held them to 21 points in the first half of the game, but the Mustangs ended the game on top with a final score of 41-66. Leading in scoring for the Trojanettes was AC Whitehead with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Following Whitehead was Kristen Retherford with 11 points and 2 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes was Asia Kelly with 5 points and 10 rebounds, Sophie Gobbell and Emily Kautsky with 4 points and 2 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 3 points and 1 rebound, and Brylee Harris with 1 point and 1 rebound. Hayley Siems finished the game with 2 rebounds and Harlee Haddock had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans also fought hard against the Loretto Mustangs. They held the Mustangs to 23 points in the first half. After 2 quarters of play, the Trojans were down 5 points with the score being 18-23. A slow start in the 3rd quarter stretched the Mustang lead to 13 points. The Trojans were unable to recover after this which resulted in a final score of 47-65. Leading in scoring for the Trojans was Blair Holt with 13 points. Following Holt was Peyton Ward with 11 points, Dayton Scott and Noah Hollis with 9 points each, Dalton Chastain with 3 points, and Joe Thompson with 2 points. 

   The Trojanettes’ trip to Perry County on Friday for their first district road game resulted in a win. They had a slow start in the first half with a lead of only 3 points, the score being 30-27 at the half. The girls came back in the 3rd quarter and fought hard for their win. The final score against the Perry County Vikings was 58-46. Leading in scoring and rebounds was Asia Kelly with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Also leading in scoring were AC Whitehead with 14 points and 4 rebounds, and Kristen Retherford with 14 points and 3 rebounds. Emily Kautsky finished the game with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Also scoring were Brylee Harris with 3 points and 2 rebounds, Hayley Siems with 2 points and 1 rebound, and Alyssa Gray with 1 point and 3 rebounds. Sophie Gobbell had 3 rebounds and Katie Robertson finished with 2 rebounds. 

   The Trojans fought hard in their game against the Perry County Vikings. They started off the game with a first quarter lead of 2 points with the score being 17-15. At halftime the Trojans were only behind by 2 points. The 3rd quarter was yet again a close game with a score of 42-45. Ultimately in the 4th quarter our boys fell short with a final score of 56-62. Blair Holt led the Trojans in scoring with 19 points. Noah Hollis followed Holt with 15 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joe Thompson with 11 points, Peyton Ward with 7 points, and Dayton Scott and Dalton Chastain with 2 points. 

   The Trojans now have a record of 3-8 and the Trojanettes have a record of 9-2. This week, the Trojan and Trojanettes have two big district games with county rivals Waynesboro and Clifton. Everyone come out to support our Trojan and Trojanettes!—Submitted
