Trojans Beat Wildcats 24-0 (Oct. 29)

Collinwood Trojans Beat Waynesboro Wildcats

The 2021 high school football season ended in Wayne County on Friday night. The Wayne County High School Wildcats were limited to only 110 total yards on offense and had two costly turnovers to be shut out by the Collinwood Trojans, 24-0. The Wildcats end the season at 2-8 and will lose twelve seniors to graduation. They will have to regroup and work hard to get ready for 2022.

The game began with Collinwood receiving the opening kick. They began a 61-yard, 7-play drive from the Trojan 39. A three-yard run at the 8:21 mark on the clock saw the Trojans score their first of three touchdowns of the night. They converted the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. The teams exchanged possessions for the rest of the first half. Just before the half, the Trojans marched down the field, aided by two 15-yard penalties, to the Wildcat 12. The Wildcat defense held them out of the end zone, and the first half of action came to an end with the score 8-0.

In the second half, the ‘Cats began with the ball at their own 49. Four plays later, the Wildcats fumbled the ball over to the Trojans. They scored with plays later. The conversion was successful, making the score 16-0. The Wildcats again began with good field position, starting at their own 44. They moved the ball this time before giving it up on an interception at the Trojan 16. The Wildcats got no closer, and the Trojans sealed the win with a 22-yard run for a touchdown with a little over a minute left in the game to take the 24-0 win.

Congratulations, Trojans. The Wildcats will be working to improve on their 2-8 record and preparing for another edition of Wildcat football in 2022.
