Trojanettes Score Three Wins, Trojans Suffer Three Losses

   The Collinwood High School Trojans and Trojanettes had three games last week. On Monday, they traveled to Santa Fe. Tuesday was the last regular season home game and senior night against Mt. Pleasant. On Thursday, the Trojans and Trojanettes finished the regular season by traveling to Lewis County. The girls had three wins and the boys had three tough losses. 

   On Monday, the Trojans and Trojanettes traveled to Santa Fe for a makeup game that had been postponed earlier in the season. The Trojanettes came out strong, and were up by 15 at the half with a score of 29-14. They continued to battle in the second half, ending with a great win with a score of 54-25. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was Kristen Retherford with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Following Retherford was Asia Kelly with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Alyssa Gray with 10 points and 6 rebounds, AC Whitehead with 9 points and 5 rebounds, Katie Robertson with 3 points and 1 rebound, Emily Kautsky with 3 points and 3 rebounds, Hayley Siems with 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Sophie Gobbell with 1 point and 4 rebounds. Brylee Harris had 2 rebounds, and Rhianna McWilliams and Addie Quillen each had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans suffered a loss against Santa Fe with a score of 39-67. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Joe Thompson with 8 points. Following J. Thompson was Aidan Baskins with 7 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Blair Holt with 6 points, Peyton Ward and Tucker Thompson with 3 points each, and Kelsey Moore, Joe Hensley, Dayton Scott, Noah Hollis and Bryan Rozinski each with 2 points.

   On Tuesday, the Trojanettes faced Mt. Pleasant at home for senior night. The Trojanettes had a 10 point lead at the half with a score of 20-10. The girls came back from halftime and had a great third quarter start, resulting in a 29 point lead with a score of 43-14. This energy continued into the fourth quarter which gained them another win with a final score of 55-28. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was Kristen Retherford with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Emily Kautsky with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were AC Whitehead with 7 points and 2 rebounds, Brylee Harris with 6 points and 2 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 5 points and 5 rebounds, Asia Kelly with 4 points and 10 rebounds, Sophie Gobbell with 3 points and 6 rebounds, and Hayley Siems with 2 points and 5 rebounds. Rhianna McWilliams had 3 rebounds, Katie Robertson had 2 rebounds, and Kaycee Luker had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans also played Mt Pleasant on Tuesday. At halftime, the Trojans were down only 4 points with a score of 29-33. After the half, the boys kept it a close game, but ultimately were unable to recover. The final score was 59-61. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Dayton Scott with 16 points. Following Scott were Noah Hollis and Joe Thompson with 12 points each. Also scoring for the Trojans were Peyton Ward with 9 points, Tucker Thompson with 5 points, Blair Holt with 4 points, and Bryan Rozinski with 1 point.

   The Trojanettes finished their regular season by traveling to Lewis County on Thursday. The Trojanettes had a 6 point lead at the half with a score of 23-17. Lewis County was able to come back from halftime and only be behind by 1 point at the end of the third quarter. The Trojanettes finished the game with a win. The final score was 57-44. Kristen Retherford and AC Whitehead led the Trojanettes in scoring, each with 13 points. Retherford had 3 rebounds and Whitehead had 2 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Sophie Gobbell with 8 points and 4 rebounds, Emily Kautsky with 8 points and 9 rebounds, Asia Kelly with 7 points and 7 rebounds, and Alyssa Gray with 2 points and 1 rebound. Hayley Siems also had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans suffered their third loss of the week at the hands of Lewis County. The Trojans were down 8 at the half with a score of 12-20. After the half, the Trojans were unable to recover and finished the game with a score of 38-47. Peyton Ward led the Trojans in scoring with 9 points. Following Ward were Dayton Scott, Joe Thompson, and Bryan Rozinski, each scoring 6 points. Also scoring for the Trojans was Noah Hollis with 5 points, and Dalton Chastain and Blair Holt with 3 points each. 

   Tournament time has quickly approached for the Trojans and Trojanettes. Both the boys and girls will play at home Tuesday against Clifton. If they win, they will both play in Waynesboro for the semifinals. The Trojanettes finished the regular season with a record of 17-6 and are seeded 3rd going into the district tournament. The boys finished with a record of 7-16 and are going into tournaments seeded 4th. Come out and support our boys and girls this week!—Submitted
