What could have been a truly tragic accident involving a tractor trailer truck on Monday morning fortunately resulted in no serious injuries after the driver allegedly fell asleep and ran off the roadway, striking a guardrail and multiple trees before coming to a rest at the bottom of a steep embankment.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the tractor trailer, owned by Crossroads Sod Farm, LLC was traveling westbound on Highway 64 East at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday morning, June 13, when the driver, Bryan Baumgart, age 48, of Kelso, TN fell asleep and lost control of the truck. The vehicle ran through a guardrail and traveled down a steep embankment, hitting several trees before coming to rest.

The driver of the tractor trailer was obviously very shaken up but sustained no injuries in the wreck. THP reported that the driver was wearing a seatbelt. He was issued one citation for failure to exercise due care.
