Wayne County 4-H Competes in Project Showcase

Posted

Wayne County 4-H was well represented at the Western Region 4-H Project Showcase this year! On April 12, four 4-H members and their families went to Jackson to compete in the Interactive Exhibit Contest portion of the Project Showcase.

In the Companion Animal project area, Aiden Hickerson took 2nd place with his display about the effects and prevention of heartworms in dogs.

In the Entrepreneur project, Mariel Morales took 1st place in the exhibit competition with her exhibit detailing how to get a business started. In addition to her 1st place in her project area, she also was named the Cluster Winner, with the highest score in the Consumer Skills Project Cluster, which earned her a $150 gift certificate for 4-H Camp.

In the Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife project, Kayden Martin took 1st place with his exhibit about fossils and minerals.

In the Engineering project, Reece Morrow took 1st place in the exhibit competition with his exhibit about simple and complex machines. In addition to his 1st place in his project area, he was also named the Cluster Winner, with the highest score in the STEM Project Cluster, which earned him a $150 gift certificate for 4-H Camp.

In addition to submitting exhibits for the competition, students in 6th-8th grade have the opportunity to also submit a Project Portfolio, which details the activities they have completed within that project area, as well as leadership and citizenship activities completed by the 4-H member. The score from the Project Portfolio is combined with the Interactive Exhibit score to determine the Premier Exhibitor for each Project Cluster. This year, we had two 4-H members submit a Project Portfolio, in addition to their display. Mariel Morales completed a portfolio in the Entrepreneurship Project Area, and her two scores combined earned her the title of Premier Exhibitor in the Consumer Skills Cluster. Reece Morrow completed a portfolio in the Engineering Project Area, and his two scores combined earned him the title of Premier Exhibitor in the STEM Cluster. Both participants received a 4-H Project Showcase Premier Exhibitor backpack.

We appreciate all of the family members who traveled to Jackson for the contest to provide encouragement and support for their 4-H members!
