Summer Fun Has Begun at Wayne County Library and Collinwood Depot Library

Summer fun at the Wayne County Public Library and Collinwood Depot Branch Library begins this week!

This year’s summer reading program at the library is “Reading Colors Our World.” Children who come to the library each week to check out books will receive a prize. There will also be library scavenger hunts, drop-in anytime crafts, and weekly Friday events.

The libraries will also be partnering with Wayne County Cares – Crafty Kids on Fridays in June for FREE crafts! The Crafty Kids meet-ups are scheduled as follows:

Friday, June 6 – Wayne County Public Library, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Making Bookmarks

Friday, June 13 – Collinwood Depot Branch Library, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Wayne County Public Library, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Make Your Own Magnets

Friday, June 20 – Collinwood Depot Branch Library, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Wayne County Public Library, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Paint Your Own Wooden Ornaments

Friday, June 27 – Wayne County Public Library, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Decorate and Plant Your Own Plant

A free special event for the summer readers will be held on Friday, June 27, at the Collinwood Recreation Building from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Summer readers who have checked out books at the library and completed an activity during the month of June are invited to this special event, which will include an inflatable Lego obstacle course, a certificate for one free small pizza at Dad’s Pizzeria in Waynesboro, free hot dogs, chips, and drinks, and craft activities.

Three goals will hopefully be reached by more children and their parents this summer: they will discover how inviting the library is, especially in the hot summer as a place to cool off, chill out, and escape through reading; the library will grow in circulation; and the activities will encourage the life-long love of reading. Not too shabby for one month!
