Mrs. Shirley Jo Clayton Staggs of Waynesboro, Tennessee was born July 12, 1942 in Wayne County, TN, the daughter of the late Ernest Calvin and Ella Nora Smith Clayton. She was united in marriage to Thomas Junior Staggs on December 14, 1961 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 2018. Mrs. Staggs was retired from Genesco and she departed this life on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 7 days.
She is survived by a son, Chris Staggs of Waynesboro, TN; five daughters, Debbie Sherrill and her husband, Joe of Drayton, ND, Tina Hudgins of Collinwood, TN, Lisa Jones and her husband, Casey of Waynesboro, TN, Kim McCurry of Waynesboro, TN and Brandi King and her husband, Neal of Hohenwald, TN; her grandchildren, Kelsey, Jana Beth, Michael, Ciara, Cassie, Hunter and Caylee; her great-grandchildren, Caysen, Ava and Aniston; a brother, Teddy Clayton and his wife, Patricia of Waynesboro, TN; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Staggs was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Clayton and a sister, Pat Clark.
Services were held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Casey Jones officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting the family. Pallbearers were Ernie Clayton, Alan Clayton, Kevin Clayton, Teddy Clayton, Jason Wizer, and Neal King.
