Raymond James Wood of Adamsville, Tennessee was born July 29, 1956 in Beckley, West Virginia, the son of the late Raymond James Wood, Sr. and Velma Lucille Fleming Wood. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Lee Sowell on January 2, 1988. Mr. Wood departed this life on October 26, 2019 at the age of 63 years, 2 months, and 27 days.
Ray was an active member of West Shiloh Baptist Church where he served in different roles for many years. He was self-employed as Wood Wholesale. Ray loved working on old cars and going to the dragstrip with his granddaughter Kenly. His passion was doing anything with and for his grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Wood of Adamsville, TN; the mother of his children, Linda Kephart and husband Benny of Collinwood, TN; a son, Timmie Blakney and wife Trena of Jackson, TN; two daughters, Kelli Rae Brewer and husband Scotty of Bath Springs, TN and Kendra Dawn Hensley and husband Michael of Linden, TN; two brothers, Ron Wood of Loraine, OH and Bobby Wood of Colorado; a sister, Debbie Wood of Cypress Inn, TN; six grandchildren: Dustin Blakney and wife Madalyn, Dakota Blakney, Kenly Blakney, Kelbi Brewer, Caleb Brewer, and Keaudra Majors; four great-grandchildren, Harper Blakney, Cora Blakney, Jonesy Blakney, and Jude Blakney; special niece Lyndsey Hill; two special nephews, Cody and Matt James; and numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
Services
were held on October 29, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer,
Tennessee, with James Stophel and John Little officiating. Burial followed in
the West Shiloh Cemetery at Stantonville, Tennessee.
