The qualifying deadline is quickly approaching for candidates to file their nominating petitions for the county election coming up on August 4, 2022. The county offices up for election this year are County Executive, Trustee, Circuit Court Clerk, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, Road Superintendent, Sheriff, County Commissioner Districts 1-7, and School Board Member Districts 2 and 5. All of these offices carry a four-year term.
There will also be three seats on the Waynesboro City Commission on the ballot. These seats carry a four-year term as well.
Three more positions will be on the county ballot in August, each of which carry an eight-year term: Circuit Court Judge, District Attorney General, and Public Defender.
Candidates for the offices of Sheriff and Road Superintendent must file all their required documentation with the appropriate agency for their office by March 22, 2022. All other candidates must file their nominating petitions at the Election Office in the courthouse before the qualifying deadline at 12:00 noon on April 14, 2022.
Four seats will be on the ballot in August for the State Primary Election: Governor, Republican State Executive Committee Man and Woman, and Democrat State Executive Committee Man and Woman, all of which carry a four-year term; and U.S. House of Representatives 7th Congressional District and State House of Representatives 71st District, both with a two-year term. This Primary Election will determine who will be on the ballot in the State General Election on November 8.
