Hi, my name is Phil Dedrick and I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the position of County Commissioner for the 3rd District of Wayne County.

I was born in Waynesboro at the old hospital in 1957 and raised up in the Wayne Furnace area on Highway 64 and the Dogwood Heights area in the city of Waynesboro. I have been living at 2241 Waynesboro Highway north of Waynesboro near the Buffalo River for the last several years. I graduated from Wayne County High School in 1975. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Tammie Brown Dedrick, for 27 years.

I was in the military for 15 years reaching the rank of Sergeant (SGT)/E5 with an Honorable Discharge. While in the military I received five Military Occupational Skills: Heavy Transportation Operator, Fuel Transport Specialist, Combat Engineer, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Medic. I worked as an EMT/IV Therapist here at our local Ambulance Service and as an out-of-state Millwright for several years. I am retired and a veteran.

I am a member of the Tennessee Firearms Association, which is a Tennessee not-for-profit corporation formed to promote the right to keep and bear arms, restoring government to citizen control and giving full effect to the original intent of the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution.

I love Wayne County and the people here. I also believe there are many concerns/issues that need to be addressed to make our county a better place to live for our citizens.

SOME OF MY CONCERNS:

1.)  I do believe that our County employees deserve the benefits of insurance, but I will NOT SUPPORT a raise in our property taxes in order to accomplish this. Our county has many, many citizens, young and old, also disabled, who are on at set income. We must explore all options and do the research on this issue.

2.)  I have watched for dozens of years our citizens having to support their families by driving out of county to find work. I will do everything possible find other industries to locate to our county and make sure these companies are willing to pay the citizens a decent wage.

3.)  Safety for our citizens such as the Beech Creek Volunteer Department has not been up and running for a few years, and I will do everything possible to find other industries to locate to our county and make sure these companies are willing to pay the citizens a decent wage.

4.)  More safety issues bring us to Highway 13 North of Waynesboro where the s-curves begin at Tatum Holler to the Perry County line. If you travel this road daily, I am sure you have met big log/lumber/product trucks that are usually driving over the middle painted line on the wrong side of the road in your lane because of how narrow this highway is and there is no place on the sides of the road (embankments) so you can get out of the way. I will push to get this road widened because of how dangerous this is.

I would like our 3rd District citizens to understand the four other candidates that are qualified to run have all of my respect. They are a fine bunch of fellows, but they are younger and they all have full time jobs. I on the other hand am retired and I have lots of time to go out of town to Nashville to our Capitol and talk to our state-elected officials (House & Senate) to find grants that will help us here in our county. I will also stay in contact with our Federal elected officials (Mark Green & Marsha Blackburn) also.

I’ll always be available for the citizens of Wayne County District 3 and all of Wayne County to reach out to me if needed. Our phone number has been listed in our local phone book for over 25 years and I would be honored to talk with you if you have any concerns for Wayne County. If you do have concerns I would love to hear from you. My phone number is 722-7716.

If elected, I look forward to working with our County Commissioners and our County Executive. I would be very honored to represent District 3 and I would like to ask you for your vote and your support for this position.

Thank You, God Bless, and Molon Labe!!!
