Mrs. Nancy Geneva Lynch Ray of Waynesboro, Tennessee was born August 27, 1928 in Waynesboro, TN, the daughter of the late Hardy Burt and Mazy Clay Lynch. She married John William Ray on December 22, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2007. Mrs. Ray worked for many years with her husband, J.W., operating Ray’s Body Shop and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, TN. She departed this life on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center, Columbia, Tennessee at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Survivors include sons, Mike, Tony and Jeff Ray, wife, Leslie; daughter, Sherry Ray and sisters, Katherine Brewer and Virginia Whitten, all of Waynesboro, TN; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Chastity Breana Jones; brothers, Edward, Roy, Clyde, Walter, Lester, Rex and Paul Lynch and a sister, Carrie Lynch Moore.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Waynesboro, TN with W.L. Wallace and Joel Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Butterfly Foundation, P.O. Box 212, Waynesboro TN, 38485. The family ask that those attending the visitation or services to wear a face covering or mask.
