On Monday, May 31st, 2021, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Monument on the Courthouse Square in Waynesboro, the annual Memorial Day Remembrance Program hosted by American Legion Post 130 of Waynesboro and American Legion Post 254 of Collinwood will be held. The program is to honor American military personnel who gave the supreme sacrifice to keep our nation free, and to ensure that we the people will continue to have the rights and freedoms granted to us by the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
The monument on the square pays tribute to those who died during the days of trying times of war at home and abroad from World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam. Memorial Day recognizes all veterans that gave their all. There have been no deaths of military personnel from Wayne County contributed to the wars that have been ongoing in the Persian Gulf and Middle East since the early 90s.
Many Americans have forgotten the meaning of this day that has been set aside to honor these heroes. Those who are able are encouraged to take the time to attend this meaningful program and honor those from Wayne County. County Mayor Jim Mangubat will give words of welcome, as will individuals from various historical and military organizations. Mr. William “Bill” Hood of American Legion Post 130 will deliver the keynote address. Everyone is invited to join in this ceremony of remembrance of our fallen.
