Mattie Pearl “Pat” Skaggs Burns was born March 20, 1940 in Collinwood, TN, the daughter of the late Wiley and Madgie Brewer Skaggs. On November 4, 1960 she was united in marriage to John David Burns, who survives.
Pat retired from her own business, Pat’s Beauty Cottage as a hair stylist. She also was a factory worker at Genesco and Mallory. She was a member of Green River Baptist Church.
Pat departed from this life on Thursday, February 2, 2023 in Nashville, TN, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 13 days.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John David Burns; sons, Troy Burns and wife Pat of Waynesboro, TN and Kevin Burns and wife Tammie of Columbia, TN; sisters, Blanch Barnett, Patricia “Pattie” Pigg and Anna “Penny” Genine Dodd; grandchildren, Brandon Burns of Columbia, TN, Jeremey Burns of Waynesboro, TN and Amy Suggs of Chattanooga, TN.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Dalton Skaggs, Tommy Skaggs, Darnell Skaggs and Donald Ray Skaggs; sisters, Thelma Stults, Mary Franks, Faye Pennington and Arnell Turnbo.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 1:00pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood TN with Kerry Franks officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Collinwood, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
