Man Arrested After Erratic Behavior at Wayne Co. Bank

   Thomas Everett Johnson, age 47, listed as transient (homeless), was arrested on Thursday, March 12^th on charges of public intoxication and introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Waynesboro Police Chief Walter Smith filed a report stating that he responded to a call of a possibly intoxicated person at the Wayne County Bank on the square. Upon Chief Smith’s arrival at the bank, he encountered Johnson, who allegedly told Chief Smith that “the Lord had sent him there to check on his account.” The bank teller stated that Johnson did not have an account there, and they had in fact never seen him before. As Chief Smith escorted Johnson out of the bank, Johnson allegedly continued to display erratic and intoxicated behavior. Johnson was then arrested on a charge of public intoxication and transported to the Wayne County Jail. When Johnson was changing into his jail-issued orange jumpsuit, a “shank,” made from a barber’s razor knife, allegedly fell out of his sock. He was then additionally charged with introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Johnson is being held as a felony pretrial detainee on $51,000.00 bond.
