WCHS Lady Cats Take Three Wins, ‘Cats Win Over Clarksburg & Decatur/Riverside

The Wayne County High School Wildcats spent a busy week at home this week, hosting Mt. Pleasant, Clarksburg, and Decatur/Riverside. The Lady Cats used all their players in the runaway games. The ‘Cats fell to Mt. Pleasant on Monday before bouncing back to take solid wins over Clarksburg and Decatur/Riverside. The Lady Cats moved on to play in the Times Daily Christmas Tourney, beginning on Saturday at Rogersville, AL against Muscle Shoals High School. With a win they will advance to Monday night. The Wildcats will be off this week, waiting to play the week following Christmas in a tourney in Pennsacola, FL. The Lady Cats will also participate in the action there beginning on the 26th. The Lady Cats are now 10 – 2 on the year, and the Wildcats are now 7 – 5.

The Lady Cats began the week with their full court press in overdrive, holding the Lady Tigers of Mt. Pleasant to 5 points in the opening quarter to go up 34 – 5. The lead increased to 55 – 8 by the half, and the mercy rule shortened game ended, 87 – 14. Lauren Bryant and Blair Baugus each scored 11 points. Bryant had 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist, while Baugus had 3 boards, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Isabel Luedeke and Savanna McClain each scored 9 points. Luedeke had 5 boards, 5 steals, and an assist, while McClain had 5 boards, 2 steals, and an assist. Kenzie Griggs had 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Michaela Gallian added 7 points with 2 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists. Alexis Maghielse scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Jac Keaton had 5 points with a rebound, 2 steals, and an assist. Kylee Brewer, Annie Lee, and Celia Powell each scored 4 points. Brewer had 4 boards and 4 assists, Lee had a rebound and an assist, and Powell had 2 assists. Emma Bryant, Cambree Camfield, and Jamie Lauren Hickman each hit a 3. Bryant had 2 steals and 2 assists, Camfield had a steal and 3 assists, and Hickman had an assist, as all Lady Cats got a lot of playing time.

The Wildcats took a 14 – 11 lead at the end of the first quarter of action against the Tigers. They saw the Tigers even the action at 22 all at the half. Ethan Camfield and Cooper Shamer three pointers helped the ‘Cats take a 37 – 29 lead by the end of the third, but the Wildcats fell apart in the fourth. They were outscored 24 – 3, to lose by the final score of 53 – 40. Ethan Camfield and Tyler Moser hit for double figures with 12 points each. Camfield had a rebound and Moser had 2. Cooper Shamer had 8 points, with 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. Justice Bell and Ryder Butler each hit a three. Bell had 2 boards and an assist, while Butler had 3 rebounds and a steal. Jesse Dixon had 2 points. Eli McClain had a rebound and 2 assists, and Sayler Skelton had a rebound and 4 assists, and Preston Stegall had a rebound. The ‘Cats were doubled up on the boards, 29 – 14, and had 15 turnovers.

The Lady Cats again dominated their opponent as they defeated the Clarksburg Lady Rockets, 80 – 20. Jac Keaton led the Lady Cats in scoring with 16 points. She had a rebound, 5 steals, and an assist. Blair Baugus scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Michaela Gallian, Alexis Maghielse and Savanna McClain each scored 9 points. Gallian had 5 boards and an assist, while Maghielse had 5 boards and 5 steals, and McClain had 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. Cambree Camfield had 7 points with 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Lauren Bryant scored 6 points, and Emma Bryant had 4 points. Isabel Luedeke had 3 points with 7 rebounds. Annie Lee and Celia Powell each scored 2 points. Lee had a rebound and 2 assists, while Powell had a rebound and a steal. Kylee Brewer scored 1 point with 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. Kenzie Griggs had an assist. The Lady Cats shot 65% from the field and forced 30 turnovers.

The Wildcats went up by double digits in the first quarter against the Rockets and then cruised to an 81 – 50 win. Tyler Moser led the Wildcats with a huge 38 point, 14 rebound performance. He also had 3 steals and 4 assists. Freshman Sayler Skelton scored 11 points and had 4 rebounds and a steal. Ethan Camfield and Eli McClain each scored 6 points. Camfield had 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 7 assists, while McClain had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Austin Whitson had 4 points with a rebound and a steal, and Cooper Shamer and Ryder Butler each added 3 points. Shamer had 3 rebounds, a steal, and 4 assists, and Butler had 3 reobunds and 2 assists. Cayson Castleman, Jace Foster, Issac Hampton, Will Robertson, and Preston Stegall hit for 2 points each. Castleman, Hampton, Stegall, and Foster each had a rebound, with Foster also grabbing a steal. Stegall had 2 assists. Jesse Dixon had 4 boards and an assist, and Avery Wilson had a board and an assist. The Wildcats hit 53.8% from the field and forced 23 turnovers.

The Lady Cats rolled up a 27 – 9 halftime lead over the Lady Panthers of Decatur/Riverside on Friday in route to a 69 – 40 win. Four Lady Cats hit for double figures, led by Savanna McClain’s 15. She had 2 rebounds, a block, and 3 assists. Blair Baugus and Lauren Bryant each scored 13. Baugus had 3 rebounds and an assist, while Bryant grabbed 12 rebounds, had a block, 3 steals, and an assist. Jac Keaton finished with 11 points, 2 boards, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Cambree Camfield scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds, a block, and a steal. Michaela Gallian had 4 points with a rebound, and Kenzie Griggs and Isabel Luedeke each scored 2. Griggs also had a rebound. Alexis Maghielse added one point with a steal and an assist.  Annie Lee had a steal and an assist, and Emma Bryant had an assist. The Lady Cat pressure forced 24 Lady Panther turnovers. They shot 48.9% from the field.

The Wildcats fell behind early, trailing by double figures in the first half and cut the margin to one, 34 – 33, at halftime. The second half was all Wildcats as they took a 81 – 60 win.

Tyler Moser had 27 points on the night with 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Ethan Camfield scored 15 points, including going 10 for 10 from the foul line. He had a steal and 3 assists. Eli McClain, Cooper Shamer, and Sayler Skelton each contributed 12 points. McClain had 2 boards and 2 assists, while Shamer had 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists, and Skelton had 5 rebounds and an assist. Ryder Butler added a basket and a rebound, and Austin Whitson had one point. Jesse Dixon had a rebound and an assist. The Wildcats shot 65% from the field and forced 22 Panther turnovers.    Follow the teams as they work through the holidays, preparing for opening district play in the New Year. “HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON ‘CATS AND LADY CATS!”
