Keep Wayne County Beautiful, a state affiliate of Keep Tennessee Beautiful, was represented at Keep America Beautiful’s 2023 National Conference in Washington, D.C.

Keep America Beautiful hosted the national conference at the Washington Hilton on February 20-23, 2023. Keep Wayne County Beautiful was represented by Wayne County Solid Waste Director Robert Hayes and Wayne County Solid Waste Assistant Director Lindsay Ross.

Hayes and Ross learned about new insights and best practices from industry leaders and engaged with Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the country. They also met with Keep Tennessee Beautiful state affiliates in a special meeting led by Cecile Carson, of Carson Consultants, and Pamela Willingham, Keep Tennessee Beautiful’s Assistant Director, during the conference regarding initiatives directly related to the state affiliate program.

Solid Waste Director Robert Hayes stated, “The Keep America Beautiful Conference was an excellent opportunity to engage with a national organization to learn and share Wayne County’s successes in Rural Recycling, waste reduction, and educating communities on litter prevention. This was a perfect opportunity to promote Wayne County on a National level.”

The highlight of the conference included the national awards recognition luncheon, in which Keep Tennessee Beautiful received the Innovation Award for the state-wide litter program Trashercise in 2021. In addition, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and the Tennessee State Parks received the State Agency Partnership Awards for 2021 and 2022.

Keep Tennessee Beautiful is the state-level affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and serves as a state resource for litter prevention, community greening, and recycling and waste reduction education. Keep Tennessee Beautiful is a grant-funded organization sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a community engagement program at The University of Memphis.
