On Wednesday, September 7, a pursuit began with law enforcement officers from Lewis County attempting to arrest a man on multiple felony warrants.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, William Gabriel Attkisson was driving a motorcycle in Lewis County when he was spotted by police officers. The police officers, being aware of Attkisson’s warrants, began an attempt to pull Attkisson over. Instead of pulling over and cooperating with the officers, Attkisson allegedly fled, and a multi-agency pursuit began with Attkisson crossing the county line into Wayne County and eventually crashing the motorcycle on Highway 64 West. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office stated that Attkisson was traveling at speeds up to 80mph.

After Attkisson crashed the motorcycle, he was transported to Wayne Medical Center for an evaluation of his injuries. He was released with no serious injuries.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Attkisson as soon as he was released from the hospital, and he was transported to the Lewis County Jail at that time. Upon his arrest, Attkisson received additional charges of felony evading arrest, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in the Lewis County Jail at this time.

Police agencies involved in the pursuit were the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Waynesboro Police Department. The Clifton Police Department was also involved in communications in case the pursuit continued into Clifton.
