Michelle Anne Staggs, age 50, of Florence, Alabama, was arrested on Friday, January 8th on charges of possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputy Tyler McKenzie filed a report stating that he was sitting stationary on Weatherford Creek Road when a red Ford Focus drove by with no license plate. Deputy McKenzie proceeded to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle, and Staggs was identified as the driver. While writing a warning ticket for the license plate violation, Deputy McKenzie asked for and received permission to search the vehicle. Staggs allegedly admitted prior to the search that there was a glass meth pipe in the center console.
Deputy McKenzie went on to allegedly locate the meth pipe in the center console, along with approximately four grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, another meth pipe, and a snorting straw inside a bag located in the passenger floorboard. Deputy McKenzie also allegedly recovered a .380 automatic handgun with one round that was in Staggs’ bag.
Staggs was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Jail, where she was booked in on $150,000.00 bond.
