Elizabeth Ann Tinin Templeton was born just outside Clifton on April 27, 1934. Her parents were Ralph and Delphia Tinin. In her early years she also spent a lot of time with her beloved Aunt Lydia Denton. As a young girl she worked in the cotton fields of her family’s farm, but her parents always made sure she attended Frank Hughes School when it was in session. She excelled in school, graduating as the Salutatorian of the Class of 1952. That same year she married Glenn Templeton. They made their home in Clifton for 55 years until his death in 2007.

Elizabeth was a person who always worked hard and did all of the things she was supposed to do. She spent most of her working years at the Clifton factory, where she served as a supervisor for decades. When she was not at work, she spent hours each day taking care of her family. Elizabeth tried to ensure that her children and grandchildren could have a better life. She always put the wants and needs of her loved ones above her own. She loved being around her extended family and having fun. She and her sister Jewell loved to engage in all kinds of foolishness with their nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was a devoted member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Riverside was a big part of her life for most the past 30 years. In later years she attended the Clifton Presbyterian Church. It was closer to her home, and she also liked it very much.

Elizabeth was a good person with a warm smile.  No person alive can truly say that she made their life worse, but many people know that she made their lives better.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Sandy Smith; sisters, Willadean Neal and Jewell Holt; brother, Hubert Tinin; and many other dear relatives and friends.
She is survived by daughter, Glenda Riley and son, John Templeton; sons-in-law, Billy Riley and Bill Smith; sister-in-law, Virginia Tinin; grandchildren, Joe Riley and wife Carla, Rachel Riley-Coe and husband William Coe, and Beth Witte and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Cannon Coe and fiancé Erika Ray, Dylan Stephens, Caitlyn Stephens, Hayden Riley, Houston Riley, and “one’s on the way” – Chloe Witte.

Elizabeth will be greatly missed, but all of the love she left behind will endure.

A graveside service was held on February 25, 2021 at the Clifton Cemetery in Clifton, Tennessee with Josh Layne officiating.
