The Wayne County School Board met in Special Session on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Following the discussion of regular business items, the board addressed the main item on the agenda: the selection of a new Director of Schools.
With the retirement of former Director of Schools Marlon Davis, two applications were submitted for the board’s consideration. The candidates were Dr. Don McPherson of Cullman, Alabama, and current Supervisor of Instruction of Wayne County, Dr. Ricky Inman.
Commissioner Mark Staggs made a motion to select Dr. Ricky Inman as the new Director of Schools. Commissioner Martin seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously on roll call vote.
Dr. Inman released the following statement after being appointed to his new position:
“I am both honored and excited to lead Wayne County Schools as the next Director of Schools. I would like to recognize and thank the support I have received from colleagues, parents, and community members. I would also like to recognize Mr. Marlon Davis for his service to our district as an educator and principal and his eight years of service as Director of Schools. Without their support, this would not have been possible. Finally, I would also like to thank the Board of Education for affording me this opportunity. Their individual perspectives and commitment to our students and schools are integral in elevating our schools.
“As an alum and lifelong employee of Wayne County Schools, I also recognize the amazing work our faculty, staff, and students are doing, and I am excited to work beside them in the next chapter of our school district. Our students are the future of Wayne County, and I am committed to providing the most innovative and effective education to each student. Through the diligent work of our exceptional faculty and staff, we will work to provide each student with the tools and education necessary to transform them into future leaders of our world.”
