Deadline for Candidates is Thursday, April 2nd

   Thursday, April 2nd at 12:00 noon is the official deadline for candidates to submit their qualifying paperwork to be on the ballot in the August 6th election. Following are the seats that will be on the ballot:

Local:

•Waynesboro City Commission (2 seats)

County General:

•Property Assessor

•School Board Member District 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7

•Circuit Judge Part 3 (Unexpired Term)

•Public Defender (Unexpired Term)

•Democrat State Executive Committee Woman (Unexpired Term)

State Primary:

•State Senator District 28

•State Representative District 71

•U.S. Congressman 7th District

•U.S. Senator

   General qualifications for elected offices in Tennessee include being 18 years of age, being a citizen of the United States, and have been an inhabitant of the state, county, district or circuit for the period required by the constitution and laws of the state except: 1) Those that have been convicted of offering a bribe, larceny, or any other offense declared infamous by law unless restored. 2)  Those against whom there is a judgment unpaid for any moneys received by them in any official capacity, due to the US to this state or county thereof. 3)  Those who are defaulters to the treasury at the time of election. 4)  Soldiers, seamen, marines or airmen in the regular army or navy or air force of the US and 5) Members of Congress and persons holding any office of profit or trust under any foreign power, or other state of the union , or under the US.

   Qualifications for specific offices include those above and additionally: U.S. Senator – 30 years of age, a U.S. citizen for nine years, and a TN resident; U.S. Representative – 25 years of age, a U.S. citizen for seven years, and a TN resident; State Executive Committee – must be a member of the political party whose election they seek; State Representative –  a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, a resident of TN for at least three years, and one year in the county or district represented immediately preceding the election; State Senator – a U.S. citizen, at least 30 years of age, a resident of TN for at least three years, and one year in the county or district represented immediately preceding the election; Circuit Court Judge – at least 30 years of age, a resident of TN for five years and of the circuit or district for one year; Public Defender – a duly licensed attorney admitted to the practice of law in TN, a resident of TN for five years, and of the judicial district for one year; Assessor of Property – shall reside within the county, no member of county legislative body is eligible; County School Board – must reside in county, be a qualified voter of district represented, high school graduate or GED, no member of county legislative body or county official.
