It was a cold, wet night in West Tennessee when the Trojans came into town on Friday night.  It finally felt like football weather, though we could have done without the rain. Collinwood faced off against a skilled McEwen team, who ran the veer option masterfully and with the wet field, misdirection and quick handoffs proved to be too much to handle. Collinwood did get on the board first, taking their opening possession down to the 19-yard line with a tough running attack. Dayton Scott faked a handoff and hit Alex Haddock for a 19-yard TD pass. The rain caused some problems with the extra point attempt, but the Trojans led 6-0 with 9:23 remaining in the first quarter. McEwen then went to work with their tailback #25 scoring twice in the first quarter, once from 31 yards out and the second from the 2-yard line. Collinwood’s Alex Haddock answered back with a 3-yard run of his own. The try for 2 failed. McEwen went to the air for their next touchdown scoring from 16 yards out to finish up the scoring in the first half.  Halftime score 21-12, McEwen.

Collinwood did not find the endzone in the second half though they did drive the ball down the field, but unfortunately turned the ball over on downs after stalled drives. McEwen’s #25 matched his 2 touchdowns from the 1st half with 2 more in the 3rd quarter. Final score McEwen 35, Collinwood 12.

Offensively, the Trojans racked up 220 yards of total offense. Alex Haddock ran the ball 17 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. Joe Houston Thompson had 34 yards on 3 carries. Dayton Scott added 21 yards on 4 carries. Scott also completed 6 of 14 passes in the mud and muck for 83 yards and a touchdown. Alex Haddock caught the touchdown pass from Scott and had another reception, averaging 22.5 yards per catch. Dalton Chastain added 3 receptions for 23 yards.  Peyton Ward also had a catch for 15 yards.

The Trojans were led defensively by Joe Houston Thompson and Rouge Holt, who both tallied 14 tackles each.

The team travels to Bruceton next Friday night for a tough region game. Collinwood’s record sits at 3-5, with 2 games remaining. The next two games are going to be hard fought, with Collinwood having nothing to lose and a potential playoff berth to gain. It has been said that “one finds the strength of its spine when their back is against the wall.” Trojans, you are against it, so it is time to see what the Men in Green are made of.—-Submitted
