The Collinwood High School Trojans and Trojanettes traveled to Waterloo last Tuesday to play the Cougars. In the first game, the Trojanettes were able to notch their second win of the season. The Trojanettes started out the night cold from the field but played tough defense and hit the boards hard. Even though they struggled to score, they were able to turn over the Lady Cougars enough to take a 24-19 lead into the half. In the second half the Trojanettes were able to find their offense and went on a huge run to start the second half that led to the Trojanettes out- scoring Waterloo 31-3 in the second half, leaving the final score Trojanettes 55 – Lady Cougars  22. Kristen Retherford led Collinwood with 14 points and 3 rebounds, followed by Alyssa Gray with 11 points and 1 rebound and Sophie Gobbell with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Others contributing were Emily Kautsky with 6 points and 5 rebounds, Asia Kelly with 5 points and 4 rebounds, AC Whitehead with 4 points and 2 rebounds, Harlee Haddock with 4 points and 1 rebound, Brylee Harris with 2 points and 4 rebounds, Addie Quillen with 1 point and 1 rebound, Katie Robertson with 1 point, Hayley Siems with 3 rebounds, Rhianna McWilliams with 3 rebounds, and Kaycee Luker with 1 rebound.

In the second game of the night, the Trojans faced a very athletic Cougar team and played them to the buzzer before losing a tight game. The Trojans opened up the game with some stout defense and were able to score some easy baskets and score with the Cougars to make the score deadlocked at 27 at half. The third quarter was much of the same with both teams playing good defense and the lead changed hands several times. The fourth quarter was an exciting final quarter of basketball as both teams would trade leads up until the final minute. Down by 3 with less than a minute to play, the Trojans called a timeout to set up a chance for a game tying three pointer. They were able to get a good look for Noah Hollis but his shot went off the back rim and the Cougars pulled down the rebound. The Trojans were forced to foul and the Cougars were able to secure a 56-50 win by hitting free throws. The Trojans were lead by Noah Hollis with 14 points, Peyton Ward with 11 points and 6 rebounds, and Dalton Chastain with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and also 6 charges. Others contributing were Tucker Thompson with 5 points and 3 steals, Joe Houston Thompson with 5 points, Blair Holt with 2 points, and Aidan Baskins with 2 points.

The Trojans and Trojanettes will play Friday, December 6th at Home versus Lewis County at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7th at Cornersville at 2:00 p.m., and at Santa Fe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10th. Make plans to come out and support the Trojans and Trojanettes!—Submitted
