Carl Eugene Griggs, 83, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee. Born January 26, 1938 in Waynesboro, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Lewis T. Griggs and the late Lillian Harris Griggs.
He was a 1955 graduate of Wayne County High School and a long-time member of the Waynesboro Church of Christ. He owned a jewelry store for 24 years before retiring to fulfill his dream of owning a music shop. One of his greatest joys was teaching violin and guitar to aspiring new musicians. He also loved to stay physically active by participating in many runs and bike rides. He recently completed the Butterfly 5K run in June of 2021 at the age of 83. No matter what Carl did, he did it to the fullest. He was always driven to be a life-long learner, to help others, and to bring a smile to those around him through his wise humor.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margie Gallaher Griggs of Waynesboro; son, Greg Griggs of Waynesboro; daughter, Carla Wright (Al) of Columbia; grandchildren Jeremy Wright, Alec Wright and Anna Beth Wright; sister Betty Weiner of San Jose, CA; and brother Barry Griggs (Beverly) of Blountville, TN.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
