The deadline has officially passed for potential candidates to file their papers for the election this fall, and several have qualified to be on the ballot on Thursday, August 6th, 2020.
Current Wayne County Property Assessor Dustin White will be the only candidate on the ballot for the Property Assessor’s office in the County General election. This office carries a four-year term.
Five seats on the Wayne County School Board will be on the ballot this fall. Qualifying in District 1 is incumbent School Board member Andy Yarbrough. In District 3, incumbent Charity Horton is the only qualifier. Debbie Brown will be on the ballot for District 4, the seat currently held by her mother, Pat Brown, who is not running this year. Two candidates qualified in District 6: Camryn Eaton and Kevin Kelley. Long-time District 6 incumbent board member Barry Hanback is not running this year. Greg Eaton will be the only candidate for the District 7 school board seat which he currently holds. All seats on the school board also carry a four-year term.
Other offices on the County General ballot are Circuit Judge Part 3 (unexpired two-year term): Christopher Sockwell; Public Defender (unexpired two-year term): Travis Jones; and Democratic State Executive Committee Member (unexpired two-year term): Gregory Hanners.
Two seats on the Waynesboro City Commission will be filled in the Waynesboro City election in August, which are the seats currently held by Jeffrey W. Davis and Charlie Mosley. Four candidates fulfilled the requirements to be placed on the ballot: incumbent Jeffrey Davis and newcomers Phillip Carroll, Tracy Martin, and Lynn Warren. These are four-year terms.
The State Republican Primary election will give voters three choices for the State of Tennessee House of Representatives 71st District: incumbent State Rep. David Byrd, Austin Carroll, and Garry Welch. No Democrats qualified to be on the ballot. Seats in the State House of Representatives carry a two-year term.
Incumbent State of Tennessee Senator 28th District Joey Hensley will be the only candidate on the Republican Primary ballot for the upcoming four-year term in the State Senate. No Democrats qualified to be on the ballot for this seat.
Incumbent United States Congressman District 7 Mark E. Green will be the only Republican on the ballot in the Republican Primary election in August. The only Democrat running for the seat in the August primary is Kiran Sreepada. Offices in the U.S. House of Representatives carry a two-year term.
Fourteen Republicans have been confirmed as qualified so far to be on the ballot in the Republican Primary for the seat in the United States Senate currently held by Sen. Lamar Alexander: Clifford Adkins, Natisha Brooks, Byron Bush, Roy Dale Cope, Terry Dicus, Jim Elkins, George S. Flinn, Jr., Bill Hagerty, Jon Henry, Kent A. Morrell, Glen L. Neal, Jr., John E. Osborne, David Schuster, and Manni Sethi. Five Democrats have qualified to run in the Democratic Primary for that seat: Marquita Bradshaw, Tharon Chandler, Gary G. Davis, Robin Kimbrough, and James Mackler. Seats in the U.S. Senate carry a six-year term.
