Birdie Nell West Thompson peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 8 days. Mrs. Thompson was born March 28, 1929 in Wayne County, TN and was the daughter of the late Luther and Ada (Holt) West. She was united in marriage to Raymond Lee Thompson on July 29, 1946 and he departed her in death on June 5, 2019. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her flowers, especially her roses.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her three daughters, Leatrice Ann Demery of Savannah, TN, Katherine Nell Brison and her husband, David of Collinwood, TN, and Brenda Faye Allen of Iron City, TN; her grandchildren, Kevin Copous and his wife, Tammy, Rhonda Short, Brian Brison and his wife, Brittney and grandaughter-in-law, Trisha Thompson; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her grandson, Johnathon Thompson; three brothers, James, Floyd, and Herbert West; and a sister, Ellen Bryan.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Greg Eaton officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, assisting the family. Pallbearers were Kevin Copous, Brian Brison, Cody Thompson, Larry Bryan, Dustin Bryan, and Harold Thompson with Peyton Pigg and Brock Laminack serving as honorary pallbearers.
