Bertha Mae Wells Shelton was born June 7, 1938, in Pulaski, TN, the daughter of the late Clyde Fanoy and Rosie Mae Yant Wells. She was united in marriage to Sammy Shelton on October 7, 1961 and he preceded her in death on October 12, 1996. Bertha retired from the State of Tennessee, where she worked in employment security. She departed this life on February 22, 2023 in Lawrenceburg, TN at her home at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 15 days.
She is survived by a son, Steven Douglas Shelton (Annette Stephenson) of Lawrenceburg, TN; a daughter, Patricia G. Shelton Beckham (B.H.) of Westpoint, TN; sister-in-law, Betty Wells; grandchildren, Tori Beckham, Adrienne Beckham Ebersole (Andrew), Courtney Shelton Ferguson (Guy), Caitlyn Shelton (Michael Ryan), Cacey Shelton Mitchell (Hunter); and great-grandchildren, Beckham Ebersole, Harper Ebersole, and Caroline Mae Ferguson.
In addition to her husband and parents, Bertha was preceded in death by brother, W.C. Wells, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN, with Jacob Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
