Benny Richard Mathis was born September 28, 1954 in Waynesboro, TN, the son of the late George Woodrow Mathis and Hazel Agnes Pope Mathis. He was united in marriage to Deloris Brewer on June 24, 1978. Mr. Mathis was a plumber, worked for Mathis Hardware for 30 years, and was a member of the Green River Baptist Church in Waynesboro, TN. He departed this life on November 27, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 67 years, 1 month, and 30 days.
He is survived by his wife Deloris Brewer Mathis of Waynesboro, TN; a daughter, Melissa Mathis Davis of Waynesboro, TN; and two grandchildren, Connor and Cayden Davis.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a daughter, Cossandra Leigh Mathis; two brothers, Gene and Gerald Mathis; and three sisters, Jeanette Brison, Joyce Jones, and Pamela Terry.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN with Kerry Franks officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Methodist Church Cemetery at Lawrenceburg, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting the family. Pallbearers were Terry Quillen, Doug Sanders, Garrett Sanders, Jason Ray, Boston Ray, Sawyer Ray, and Cameron Davis. Honorary Pallbearer was Cayden Davis.
