Wayne County’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony, honoring our many Wayne County veterans, was held at the Collinwood Recreation Building on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11th. The ceremony was hosted by the Collinwood American Legion Post 254 with participation from the Waynesboro Post 130 members. Rainy weather forced the program indoors, as it was previously scheduled to be held at the beautiful Wayne County Veterans Park in Collinwood.

Speakers at the event were State Representative David Byrd, Collinwood Mayor Glenn Brown, Mrs. Dean Stegall, Post 254 Commander Dennis Creecy, and Post 254 Chaplain Gary Anderson. Emcee was Larry Wright from Post 254.

The program was opened and closed with prayer led by Chaplain Gary Anderson. Mrs. Lisa Calton sang God Bless America, and CHS Band Director Nick Berryman and WCHS Band Director Maria Pulley led their bands in the performing of the National Anthem, Taps, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and a medley of service songs played while the Post 254 Color Guard posted the Service Flags.

The Post 254 Honor Guard, directed by Harold Thompson, performed the always poignant 21-gun salute, honoring the more than 81,000 still missing in action.
