Flag Day is this Sunday, June 14th, and American Legion Post 254 of Collinwood will be holding a ceremony to properly dispose of all worn, tattered, or unserviceable flags. The ceremony will be at Veterans Park, located on Broadway Street in Collinwood, at 3:00 p.m.

The U.S. Flag code states, “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Thus, when a flag is torn and tattered beyond repair, it’s time for it to be retired.

Any organization or individual that has a flag which needs proper disposal may bring it to Veterans Park on Sunday at 3:00. The public is respectfully invited to attend the ceremony, which will give honor to that most patriotic symbol of the United States and all those who have fought and died for our freedom.
