Wayne Co. Master Beef Producer

We will offer the Tennessee Master Beef Producer Course at our new Wayne County Extension Office location in March. The course will be held on Friday, March 3 beginning at 5:30 pm until 8 pm and all day on Saturday, March 4 beginning at 9:00 am and concluding around 2:00 pm.

Pre-registration and payment of course fee is required. Deadline to register is February 21.

Program materials, dinner on Friday evening, lunch on Saturday, and snacks are included. Producers who complete both days of classes and have a current Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification will receive a Master Beef Producer certificate of completion, one Master Beef Producer cap, and Master Beef Producer farm sign. Those completing the course are eligible for the Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program 50% cost share.

Please note you must have a current BQA certification. We will not be offering BQA during the two-day Master Beef Producer course due to time constraints. We will offer BQA training on February 16 at 10 am or at 1 pm.

BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) Training

We will offer a BQA training day on Thursday, February 16 at 10 am or at 1 pm. The training will be at our new office location of 849 McCall Dr., Collinwood. You will need to call us to register at 722-3229 or email Anita at [email protected].

Certified Private Applicator Recertification Training

All Private Applicator Cards will be expiring on June 30th, 2023. Due to new regulations set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA), an individual with valid private applicator certification must attend recertification training and take and pass (>70%) an exam. Exams will cover C&T requirements of TDA and EPA. If the individual fails the exam, they will be allowed to retake it as many times as needed until they pass and will not encounter additional training/testing fees for retaking an exam. Also, beginning July 1, 2023, to maintain certification, one must accrue 3 points/CEUs (a CEU is 50 minutes or longer of training) during the certification cycle or obtain 3 points at the time of recertification. Points/CEUs could be accrued beginning July 1, 2023 and continue until the end, June 30, 2026.

Crop Producers who use Dicamba products must also attend an annual Dicamba Training. These trainings are usually 50 minutes in length and may be available for CEU credit. Also, to use any product that contains Paraquat, one must be certified (PA or CA) and have attended a class and passed (100%) a test provided at a paraquat school event or online training. All Paraquat Certifications, like Private Applicator Certifications are good for 3 years and will expire on June 30, 2023. (Again, 100% is required on the exam, if failed, the individual would be allowed to take the exam as many times as needed.) The training event is usually 50 minutes in length, therefore could be used as the required PA credit.

To assist producers who are in need of these pesticide certifications, we have scheduled some upcoming meetings. The cost for the Private Applicator Recertification, Paraquat, and Dicamba Training will be $25.
