On May 18, 2021, two 4-H members traveled to Lone Oaks Farm in Middleton, TN to compete in the 4-H Wildlife Judging competition. Carmen Xalute and Isaac Welch studied for several weeks prior, learning about many species of birds, reptiles, mammals, and fish – how to identify them by sight, as well as sound, and different facts about them. They also learned how to use Wildlife Management Practices to improve a habitat based on the needs of different species.

At the contest, they were to identify and answer a question about 20 different species, and then use WMP’s to improve a habitat for 6 different species. Carmen placed with a green ribbon in the Junior High age group and Isaac placed 1st overall in the individual scores in the Junior High age group.  Fantastic job to both participants!
