4-H News: Public Speaking Contest

   The 4-H Public Speaking Contest was held on January 16, 2020 at the Wayne County Extension Office. Fifteen 4-H’ers in grades 4th-9th competed for the opportunity to represent Wayne County at the Sub-Regional 4-H Public Speaking Contest and the Regional 4-H Public Speaking Contest for their grade level. All of the speeches were fantastic, so it was quite the competition!

   The winners were as follows: 4th Grade: 1st Place – Gentry Hart, 2nd Place – Eva Welch, 3rd Place – Dalton Strickland, 4th Place – Sarah Creecy. 5th Grade: 1st Place – Ruby Pope, 2nd Place – Wyatt Morris. 6th Grade: 1st Place – Ainsley Slusher, 2nd Place – Myleigh Byrd, 3rd Place – Hannah Shelton. 7th Grade: 1st Place – Isaac Welch, 2nd Place – Shaina Calton, 3rd Place – Jonah Keeton. 8th Grade: 1st Place – Shawna Calton, 2nd Place – Abby Spears. 9th Grade: 1st Place – Jane Marie Franks.

   Our judges for the evening were Marla Beavers, Cynthia Kershaw, and Chuck Koblentz. We truly appreciate their taking time out of their evening to join us to judge the contest!
