The 2021 4-H Camp week may have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but the 4-H Camp fun definitely was not! The staff of the 4-H Ridley Center in Columbia, TN packed their trailer full of activities and traveled to Waynesboro on May 24 for a day of fun in the sun to give Wayne County 4-H members a taste of 4-H Camp at home!

Some of the activities that 4-H members enjoyed were inflatable axe throwing, inflatable archery, tie-dye, Health Rocks, crafts, 4-Square, Can-Jam, and 9-Square-In-The-Air. After lunch, the 4-H members had a chance to sit down in the air-conditioning in the Green River Baptist gymnasium to watch Ridley’s own “Crazy Critter Guy” deliver a camp favorite – the Fear Factor Show! “CCG” brought multiple animals to show, including hissing cockroaches, a legless lizard, a tarantula, and more! After the show, 4-H’ers participated in the 4-H Contest Carnival, where they sampled some of the contests offered by the 4-H program outside the classroom, as well as some other carnival-style games, such as ring-toss, ball-toss, and tabletop tic-tac-toe. During the 4-H Contest Carnival, Staff Sergeant Joshua Warren from the Tennessee Army National Guard was also present to visit with the kids. He brought different MRE’s to discuss the history of how MRE’s have changed over the years. At the end of the event, each 4-H member in attendance was able to take home a drawstring backpack filled with goodies from the State 4-H Office, a 4-H neck gaiter and first-aid kit from the Wayne County Extension Office, and a tie-dyed shirt and craft that they created during their camp day.

We had a fantastic 4-H Camp Day this year and are definitely looking forward to spending a week at the 4-H Ridley Center next summer!
