Collinwood Football Foundation Awards 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” Scholarships

   The Collinwood Football Foundation has awarded its 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” Scholarships to Dayton Scott, Fletcher Hale, Joe Hensley, and Alex Haddock. The scholarships are awarded annually to Collinwood High School senior football players who embody the spirit, determination, and commitment that was demonstrated by the players on the very first Collinwood High School football team. The scholarship also recognizes an individual’s determination to succeed, ability to overcome hardships, strong leadership and strength of character.

   Dayton Scott, son of Willis Shane and Christy Michelle Scott of Collinwood, was a member of the Collinwood High School football, baseball, basketball and bass teams as well as the Beta Club, FFA, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to attend Columbia State Community College. Dayton is the recipient of the 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” $1,000 Scholarship and plans to pursue a teaching and coaching career.

   Fletcher Hale, son of Seth and Danielle Hale of Iron City, is the recipient of a 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” $750 Scholarship. In addition to playing football, Fletcher was a member of the Trojan baseball team, works for M and L Farms, and volunteers at his church. Fletcher plans to attend Columbia State Community College and is planning a career as an electrical lineman.

   Joe Hensley, son of Jonathan Dale and Tammy Renee Hensley of Cypress Inn, is the recipient of a 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” $750 Scholarship. He was a member of the Trojan football and basketball teams as well as volunteering with the Junior Pro Basketball program. Joe is currently in the process of choosing where he will continue his education.

   Alex Haddock, son of James Ronald Haddock, Jr. and Wendy Kay Risner Thompson of Collinwood, is the recipient of the 2021 “Leadership to Legacy” $500 Scholarship. In addition to playing football, Alex was a member of the Trojan baseball team, works for his family owned chicken farm, and volunteers at Millrock Freewill Baptist Church. Alex plans to attend Columbia State Community College and is planning a career as an electrician.

   On January 4, 1974, the first meeting of the Collinwood High School football team was held in the school’s cafeteria. The young men who stepped out to become members of that first team have created a legacy that so many have built on over the past 45 years. The commitment of those men to the Collinwood High School football program continues. Members of the 1974 team have worked to create the Collinwood Football Foundation. The purpose of the Collinwood Football Foundation is to provide a scholarship(s) to a senior football player(s) at Collinwood High School for the purpose of continuing education including college tuition, vocational education, trade school, or specialized training.
