Waynesboro City Manager John Hickman Remains in Office While Civil Litigation is Pending

Rocky McElhaney Law Firm recently issued a press release (printed in The Wayne County News on June 14th) stating that they had filed a claim of sexual assault on behalf of their client, Mrs. Kiersten Rainey, City Finance Officer for the City of Clifton, against John E. Hickman, City Manager of Waynesboro. The alleged assault occurred on September 11th, 2019 during a Tennessee Energy Conference held at Nashville’s Renaissance Hotel. The incident allegedly occurred in a hospitality room associated with the conference during a card game among a group of city employees. Mrs. Rainey alleged that Mr. Hickman, who was seated next to her during the card game, touched her inappropriately when he bent down to pick up some poker chips off the floor.

Rocky McElhaney Law Firm has filed suit on behalf of Mrs. Rainey against Mr. Hickman, and has gone a step further by also filing suit against the City of Waynesboro, holding them accountable for the alleged actions of their employee.

Waynesboro City Attorney Josh Polk confirmed earlier this week that Mr. Hickman is still serving in the capacity of Waynesboro City Manager at this time. Attorney Polk went on to say that the Commission has been advised not to make any comment on the pending civil litigation against Mr. Hickman and the City of Waynesboro at this time.
