2020 brings many things. One of these things is the U.S. Census. The U.S. Census is one of the foundations of our representative democracy. Under Article 1, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, each state is to be equal in the Senate, but representation in the House of Representatives is based on population. To accomplish that goal, our constitution requires that every person living in the United States be counted every ten years. The results determine how many seats each state will have in Congress for the next ten years.

Christine Chapman, Executive Director of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, and Sherrie Powers, County Commissioner, are taking their census show “on the road.” Valuable information will be given at each of the scheduled meetings (listed below). There are many scams out there, and Christine and Sherrie would like to inform the public on how to avoid them.

They will also provide information as to WHY the census is SO IMPORTANT.

Their first meeting will be on January 15th at 3:30 in the Wayne County Courthouse room 400 on the square. Everyone is encouraged to make plans to attend this, or one of the many other scheduled meetings. When April comes, everyone needs to be informed and feel secure about giving your information to the proper individuals.
