Happy New Year from the Wayne County 4-H! We have a lot of fun stuff going on this month to start the new year off right!

4-H Piggy Bank Contest – County Level: This year, the Wayne County 4-H has brought back a contest we haven’t done in a few years – the 4-H Piggy Bank Contest. In this contest, 4-H’ers create a piggy bank out of any material they wish, as long as the piggy bank is less than 12”x12”x12”, and has a way to get the money in and out without destroying the bank. The winners from each grade level have been posted on the county 4-H Facebook Page to be voted on by grade level – the winner from each category (4th, 5th, and 6th-8th) will go on to represent our county in the state contest! To vote for your favorite Piggy Bank, go to www.facebook.com/groups/WayneCounty4H and click “like” on the photo of the piggy bank that you like best in each grade category. Voting will end on January 31st.

4-H Honor Club: Our next 4-H Honor Club meeting will be on January 14th at 6:00 P.M. at the Wayne County Extension Office. At the meeting, we will be planning our upcoming club activities and service projects. Refreshments will be provided. The meeting is open to any student in grades 7-12, so if you’re interested in giving input and helping to shape the Wayne County Honor Club, definitely make plans to attend!

County Public Speaking: The Wayne County 4-H County-level Public Speaking Contest will be held on January 16th at the Wayne County Extension Office. This contest is open to students who received blue ribbons in their classroom contests for their speeches. Reminder invitations will be sent to the schools. Registration for the contest will begin at 5:45, with the contest beginning at 6:00.

If you have questions about any of the above activities, or anything 4-H related, please contact Samantha Morrow at the Wayne County Extension Office at 722-3229.
